Mentoring

Much of Matt Ball’s work has involved both formal and informal mentoring. From 2008 to 2010, he was employed by the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama as the mentor for their Graduate Theatre Company Scheme, supporting five emerging companies. During his time at Camden People’s Theatre, he developed informal mentoring relationships with numerous artists and established the Starting Blocks programme to support new work.

At National Theatre Wales, he oversaw the development of participants in the WalesLab initiative and worked closely with all Emerging Directors. He also served as a mentor for Wide Awake Devon’s Associate Producer Scheme.

Matt’s approach to mentoring is flexible and responsive to need—it can be as simple as offering a listening ear during moments of creative uncertainty, providing guidance on practical matters such as tour booking or funding applications, or stepping into the rehearsal room to offer dramaturgical insight and support as an outside eye.

He welcomes inquiries from those seeking mentorship and is happy to arrange a meeting or virtual conversation to explore whether he can provide meaningful support.

Mentoring fees can often be built into funding applications, so do get in touch even if budget is a concern.
